VP Faisal to take oath as acting-president at dawn

With President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih temporarily stepping down from his responsibilities as the President to undergo thyroid surgery – Vice President Faisal Naseem is scheduled to take oath as acting-President tomorrow.

Sun has been informed that VP Faisal Naseem will be taking oath as acting-President at 5:50am at dawn. He will be sworn in by a Supreme Court Justice.

President Solih departed to Singapore to seek medical care for his thyroid issues on Wednesday. He announced that he has been instructed to undergo surgery by his doctors tonight.

As per Article 23 of the Maldivian Constitution, in the event the President is temporarily unable to perform the duties and responsibilities of office, he shall inform Parliament Speaker in writing specifying the reasons thereof and handover his duties and responsibilities to the Vice President. The President will be able to resume responsibilities of his office after informing Parliament Speaker.
