VP: Ooredoo Maldives playing key role in Maldives’ digital transformation journey

Vice President Faisal Naseem says Ooredoo Maldives has played a pivotal role in the country’s digital transformation journey.

He made the remark at the inauguration of Ooredoo Maldives’ new headquarters in Hulhumale’ on Monday.

Speaking at the ceremony, Faisal commended Ooredoo Maldives for its unwavering commitment to fostering the growth of Maldives’ digital economy.

He said that the company’s contributions aren’t limited to telecommunications services, but also to establishing an environment where people have access to information and educational opportunities, and in improving access to broadband and mobile internet, and making the services more affordable.

He also highlighted on the current administration's key initiatives to propel the country's digital economy, including the 'oneGov', a platform designed to consolidate government services through a modern digital interface, and 'eFaas', a mobile application serving as our national digital ID system.

Faisal also highlighted the launch of the Ocean Connect Maldives-India Asia Express (OCM-IAX) submarine cable system in Hulhumale’, marking a significant stride in Maldives' journey to becoming a technology hub.

He also emphasized the progress made in making broadband and mobile internet more accessible and affordable under the current administration's efforts.

Before concluding his remarks, Faisal expressed gratitude towards Ooredoo Group, Ooredoo Maldives, and their dedicated team for their steadfast commitment to the development of the Maldives, and their relentless efforts in shaping a digital future for the country.

“Ooredoo has also provided crucial assistance and digital solutions in all crises the Maldives has faced, from the 2004 tsunami to the Covid pandemic,” he said.

In recognition of his support, Ooredoo Maldives honored Faisal with a commemorative plaque during the ceremony.

The newly inaugurated Ooredoo Maldives headquarters is a technologically advanced facility, designed to stimulate productivity and innovation.

It features an Ooredoo Experience Centre, a Club Premier Lounge for customers, and high-performance office spaces with modern amenities.
