Sheikh Zaeed resigns from Adhaalath Party’s Council of Scholars

Sheikh Ali Zaeed who was serving as a member of Adhaalath Party’s Council of Scholars – has tendered his resignation from the post today.

Sheikh Zaeed announced his resignation via a tweet – however, did not disclose a reason for the resignation.

In his tweet, he thanked the President, Vice President and members of the Council of Scholars.

“I thank the President, Vice President and all other members of the Council of Scholars for their fellowship and kindness,” his tweet read.

Sheikh Zaeed’s resignation comes after Adhaalath Party’s decision to endorse Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) candidate in the upcoming Komandoo parliamentary seat by-election.

In this regard, Sheikh Zaeed voted against endorsing MDP’s candidate during a vote taken by the Council on the matter, on Saturday. In addition to Sheikh Zaeed, Dr. Iyaz Abdul Latheef also endorsing against supporting MDP’s candidate.

Ahead of the vote, Sheikh Zaeed urged not to give the Komandoo parliamentary seat to MDP.
