Physical works on Male’ Water and Sewerage Company’s (MWSC) project to establish water and sewerage services at B. Maalhos has been officially inaugurated.
The project was inaugurated by MWSC’s Managing Director Hassan Shah, Maldives Ports Limited’s Chairman Mohamed Abdulla, B. Atoll Council President Ahmed Afraah and Maalhos Council President Abdulla Shujau during a special ceremony held at the island on Friday.
This ceremony saw the participation of other senior officials from MWSC's management as well.
MWSC noted that the equipment and material needed for the project have been transported to the island. They further detailed that the company is currently engaged in the construction of the facility needed to house the water plant, of which 23 percent of the work is complete.
According to MWSC, the water project at Maalhos involves a 4.95-kilometer main water pipeline network, construction of an RO facility, installation of two RO plants, and three water tanks to store water.
Additional work includes the installation of water meters in households, providing water connections, and supplying clean and safe drinking water.
The sanitation project, meanwhile, involves establishing a 4.50-kilometer main sanitation network, a 250-meter pipeline, two pump stations and a sea outflow.
Additional work includes establishing junctions in households, providing sanitation connections, and providing sanitation services to households.
MWSC will also be providing generator sets and vehicles needed to manage sanitation services, and facilities needed to check water quality.
Maalhos water and sewerage project was contracted to MWSC by Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Ministry for MVR 60.45 million.
