Two tourists who travelled to B. Maalhos have tested positive for COVID-19, prompting health authorities to place the island under monitoring.
Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) said on Saturday that the two tourists who tested positive had been vacationing in a guesthouse in Maalhos.
Travel in and out of Maalhos has been temporarily suspended as authorities conduct contact tracing.
Maldives has 26,021 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 82 new cases on Friday. 23,360 people have since recovered, while 69 have died from complications. The country currently has 2,584 active cases.
