119kg drug bust: Police makes additional two arrests

Maldives Police Service has arrested two more individuals in connection to the 119 kilo drug bust that took place under a counter-narcotics operation in Male’ City.

The 119-kilo drugs seized during this operation are linked to the drugs found in the trunk of a taxi earlier this week.

First person to be arrested in connection to the case was Abdulla Mujaahidh, 29, Allora, GDh. Hoadedhdhoo. Criminal Court has extended his remand by 14 days.

Police have confirmed that they have made additional two arrests regarding the case, whose remand had been extended by 15 days by the Court. Their identities were revealed by the Police to be a 51-year-old man and a 25-year-old man.

During this operation, Police had searched three houses in Male’, one house in Hulhumale’, a private car and three cycles in addition to the taxi the drugs were initially discovered from.

However, the most number of drugs were seized from the taxi – weighing over 100 kilos according to the Police. Drug packets were also seized from the private car and a motorcycle.

As per information received to Sun, the first person arrested in the case, Mujahidh, is the brother of Arshad Khalid, who was previously arrested as under suspicions of being part of a local drug trafficking ring, and believed by the Police to be the ringleader.

Arshad, who the Police believe to ring leader of a major local drug trafficking ring was released by the Criminal Court after the Supreme Court had ordered his detainment pending the outcome of the trial after declaring drug trafficking to be a threat to the national security.

Sun has been informed that following his release – he is currently residing in Dubai.
