Foreigner rescued from drowning at Vilimale’

A foreigner who had gone swimming at Vilimale’ has been rescued from drowning.

The foreigner in question is a 39-year-old man from Nepal. The incident occurred at around 17:41 this evening - at the sea near the boat yard area in Vilimale'.

He was rescued by a police officer who was in the area while he started drowning.

After being taken ashore – he was transported to Vilimale’ Hospital immediately. Police said that his condition is improving following treatment.

A tourist had also suddenly died today – whilst waiting at Hulhumale’ jetty after getting off board from a safari. Police identified the deceased tourist as a man who is from Denmark.

They further detailed that he had gotten off board from a safari – and was seated at a bench in the jetty when he was reported to have fainted. He was immediately taken to Hulhumale’ Hospital – where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
