President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has revealed his decision to declare Vilimale’s beach area as environmentally protected.

He made the announcement while responding to an appeal made by a member of the public on the ‘Raees ge javaabu’ series;  a platform that enables the public to get direct responses to their queries from the President via social media.

In this regard, Zoona Naseem, the operator of Moodhu Bulhaa Dive Centre based in Vilimale’, had appealed to the president to declare Vilimale’ beach area as protected. She also appealed for the inception of a policy that paves the way for dive centre operators like her to be allocated land from a more convenient location.

“….a path for land to be allocated from a location convenient to run such an operation on a long-term basis, in a manner that is fair, not to any specific person,” she said.

After hearing her appeal, President Muizzu described protecting the Vilimale’ beach area as “very important”.

“As the request made by Zoona will be beneficial to many people, I inform that the arrangements will be made as Zoona requested by the will of God, as it is a plan that is already in the pipeline,” he said.

With respect to allocating land for dive centres – President Muizzu said space will be allocation to operate such centres and for purposes such as training locals and similar purposes.

Vilimale’ beach area is not only frequented by Vilimale’ residents, but also Male’ residents for picnics and swimming.
