PNC leader: We are not trying to influence courts, but want our voice heard

PNC leader Abdul Raheem Abdulla (Adhurey), the acting leader of the opposition coalition, said on Tuesday that the coalition would never attempt to influence the courts. 

In a press conference at the PPM headquarters on Tuesday night, Adhurey said the greatest power to save Maldives today lies in the hands of the Supreme Court. 

He said that the comment was not an attempt to influence the courts. 

“[President’s Office Chief of Staff] Ali Zahir is very much mistaken. We would not influence the courts. That was something we never did even during our administration. Its not something we wish to do today either. But we want to have our voice heard at the courts,” he said. 

Adhurey said that it was possible that decisions by the courts could lead to the Maldivian people losing Maldives. 

He said it was something the opposition coalition would never wish to happen. 

Adhurey expressed concern over the current situation in Maldives, and said that the work of saving Maldives was far greater a task for PPM to shoulder alone. He said that the military, police and the Maldivian people need to work together to save Maldives. 

He also said that the current situation in Maldives does not allow for political discourse.
