Pakistan’s Defense and Martyrs Day celebrated in the Maldives

High Commission of Pakistan in the Maldives has celebrated Pakistan’s Defense and Martyrs Day in the Maldives.

A special ceremony was held to commemorate the day at the High Commission of Pakistan situated in Male’ City. The ceremony was attended by High Commissioner of Pakistan to the Maldives Vice Admiral (Retired) Ather Mukhtar and Deputy Head of Mission Zulqurnain Ahmad.

Pakistan’s observes the ‘Defense and Martyrs Day’ every September 6th – in remembrance of the martyrs who laid down their lives to guard the sovereignty of the country.

Speaking at today’s ceremony, High Commissioner Ather paid tribute to the martyrs that laid down their lives to guard the sovereignty of Pakistan in the 1965 War – describing them as an ‘emblem of gallantry, valor, and heroism for the generations to come’. He also saluted the martyrs and their families for their fortitude as they set a great example of patriotism by sacrificing their loved ones to defend the country.

“The spirit of September 1965 still lives in our hearts and we can proudly say that because of this, we have been successful in many testing times. Our armed forces’ professional excellence, combat readiness, and above all their unwavering faith in Allah has made Pakistan invincible,” he had said.

Speaking further, High Commissioner Ather expressed concern over the Jammu and Kashmir situation. In this regard, he stressed the importance of solving the conflict at the earliest – adding that Pakistan believes in promoting regional and international peace and stability by resolving all disputes and conflicts.

Deputy Head of Mission Zulqurnain also spoke at the ceremony – where he highlighted the role of Pakistan armed forces in eliminating the scourge of extremism and terrorism within the country for its peace and stability.

He also stressed that Pakistan fights ‘only for peace’ – pointing that the country is one of the largest contributors to the UN Peacekeeping missions to establish international peace.
