Male’ mosques end social distancing during congregational prayers

Maldivian authorities have eased COVID-19 restrictions at mosques in the greater Male’ area, allowing mosques to hold congregational prayers without being required maintain social distancing. 

Islamic Ministry lifted the restriction on mosques in the capital at Fajr this Saturday. 

The recitation of Qunoot-e-Nazilah at mosques in the capital have also been halted. 

While worshippers in mosques are no longer required to maintain social distancing during congregational prayers, they have been urged by the Islamic Ministry to continue to practice other health safety measures. 

An alarming surge in COVID-19 cases in the Maldivian capital had forced authorities to close mosques back in May. Congregational prayers in mosques in Male’ weren’t allowed to resume until July.
