A woman who travelled from Dh. Kudahuvadhoo to Male’ City after spending the Eid holidays in the island has tested positive for COVID-19, prompting health authorities to place the island under monitoring for the third time since the pandemic began.

Kudahuvadhoo Council president Ibrahim Fikury told Sun on Saturday that the woman travelled to Kudahuvadhoo during the Eid al-Adha holidays this July. He said that the woman got tested for COVID-19 after she began exhibiting flu symptoms soon after she returned to Male’ City.

Fikury said the woman was fully vaccinated, and travelled to Kudahuvadhoo with proof of a negative PCR test taken less than 72 hours prior to her departure from Male’ City.

He said that six people have been identified as contacts, and authorities expect there to be more.

“They also attended a party at this island. She tested positive when she began exhibiting symptoms after she returned to Male’. Contact tracing is in progress. Monitoring measures will be lifted once this is looked into, and if there is no further risk,” said Fikury.
