Spokesperson of Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) Dr. Nazla Rafeeq has stated that travel to an island that is placed under monitoring mechanisms will only be allowed for a necessary purpose.

Speaking at a press conference held by HEOC this evening, Dr. Nazla stated that this has been the practice prior to this even – but she is stating this once again to address confusion within the public.

Dr. Nazla further explained that islands are placed under monitoring mechanisms if there are random cases within the island.

“For example, we will not place an island under monitoring if a person who arrives on the island from Male' or elsewhere tests positive after completing a quarantine period,” she added.

A total of 20 islands are currently under monitoring mechanisms.
