Individual remanded for seven days over bomb threat to Mulee’aage

The individual who threatened to bomb the official residence of the President - Mulee’aage - has been remanded in custody.

On July 9, two individuals that passed by Mulee’aage were arrested for claiming to have been carrying a bomb. Later that day, one of the two individuals arrested was confirmed to have been released as the Police had deemed that there was no substantial reason to keep this person in custody – citing that this person had not actually made such a threat. 

A media official from the Police confirmed to Sun today that the second individual was remanded in custody for seven days when presented before the court yesterday.

The Police also said that the one who had been remanded is the only one who had indeed made the bomb threat. At the time of the arrest, he was carrying a box, a suitcase, and a red plastic bag.

While a threat has been made to bomb Mulee’aage, prior to this in May, Parliament Speaker and former President Mohamed Nasheed was wounded in a bomb attack which saw an IED attached to a motorcycle near his home detonated as he was getting into his car. Nasheed was critically wounded in the attack.

Two individuals have also been arrested recently over separate threats to bomb the People’s Majilis and the High Commission of India in the Maldives which were made on social media.
