Opposition senior leader Abdul Raheem and wife test positive for COVID-19

Former MP for Fonadhoo and current Opposition Party PNC leader Abdul Raheem Abdulla and his wife have both tested positive for COVID-19. 

Abdul Raheem is the leading figure of the opposition political movement of coalition parties PPM and PNC. 

Coalition spokesperson Heena Waleed confirmed that Abdul Raheem or Adhurey and his wife both tested positive for COVID-19 and are now isolating at home. 

Heena said that both were currently doing well. 

Abdul Raheem is a high-risk individual with heart complications which require a pacemaker.

Abdul Raheem is seen as the figurehead of the opposition political parties with former President Abdulla Yameen currently undergoing a five-year prison sentence in house arrest and unable to take part in political activities. 

The Maldives is in the midst of an immense surge of case numbers. Active cases are currently counted well beyond 20,000 with total confirmed cases exceeding 50,000.
