COVID-19 numbers surge to 1,091 new cases in the Maldives

Health Protection Agency (HPA), has announced a massive 1,091 additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in the Maldives to 35,815.

The confirmed cases 791 samples collected within the last 24 hours and 300 samples collected more than 48 hours ago due to a backlog of cases.

This is the highest number of cases confirmed at once in the Maldives.

According to HPA, the new cases include; 933 cases from the greater Male’ region, 147 cases from residential islands outside Male’, six cases from operational resorts, three from liveaboards and two from islands under development.

Meanwhile, 307 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 26,299.

With the new developments, Maldives now has 9,423 active cases.

There are 250 patients in hospitals.

4,507 samples (including repeated samples) have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours.

84 COVID-19 patients have died from complications.
