Maldives protects 104 species of birds, including pigeons

The Maldives has granted the protected status to 104 types of birds, including three types of pigeons. 

An announcement by the Environment Ministry today read that the species of birds protected today were done so under the powers granted to the Ministry by the environment protection laws of the Maldives. 

The types of birds granted the protected status today include Buzzards, Owls, Cotton Teals, Lesser Whistling Ducks, Greater Flamingos, Common Cuckoos, Peregrine Falcons as well as the Eyebrowed Thrush.

Regulations related to the protection of these animals would be applicable. 

Destruction of their habitats, capture of these birds from their natural habitats would be disallowed after the protected status of these birds.
