Man injured in gang violence moved out of ICU

Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) reports the condition of the young man who was treated at the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital after he sustained injuries in gang violence in Male’ earlier this week has improved.

Four incidents of gang violence in the capital on Sunday, January 31, left five people injured. The young man treated at the ICU was injured in violence outside the Vilimale’ Ferry Terminal in Male’, which was reported to the police at 11:26 pm on Sunday.

IGMH’s spokesperson told Sun on Thursday that the condition of the patient has improved, and that he has been moved out of the ICU.

The spokesperson declined to provide any further details.

Police have made five arrests in connection to the violence - three of them minors.

Criminal Court has granted a warrant to remand two of the suspects to custody of police for five days.

Police have yet to make an official comment regarding the cause for the violence, which comes after a long lull in gang violence in the capital.

However, Sun has been informed through multiple sources the violence is linked with the testimony of two secret witnesses in the trial of the 2017 murder of Nadheem Abdul Raheem (Nadey), 23.

This has not been confirmed by the police.
