The monitoring mechanisms on L. Gan and Fonadhoo in light of four COVID-19 cases detected from Fonadhoo, has been lifted by the Health Protection Agency (HPA).
Gan and Fonadhoo were placed under monitoring mechanisms last Saturday after four individuals that traveled from the island of G. A. Dhevvadhoo tested positive from Fonadhoo. A signed notice by the Director-General of Public Health Maimoona Aboobakuru today, read that there was no further reason to keep the islands under monitoring mechanisms.
The four cases from Fonadhoo tested positive after they traveled from Dhevvadhoo on December 27. Direct contacts of the four have all tested negative according to Fonadhoo Health Center.
Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) stated that a total of 52 cases were detected in connection with the Dhevvadhoo cluster. 43 were confirmed from the island itself while other cases were also detected from the islands of G. A. Dhaandhoo, G. A. Villingili, Hulhumale’ as well Fonadhoo.
The first case from Dhevvadhoo was tested positive on December 27, although authorities have stated that it is likely that the virus had spread on the island before that date. Dhevvadhoo is still under monitoring mechanisms as well as Dhaandhoo and Villingili.
