Gan International Airport’s General Manager Gais Naseer told Sun on Monday that 2020 will be the year the airport handles the highest number of jets.

According to the informational shared by Gan International Airport, the previous highest number of jets handled during a tourism season was in 2015, when the airport had handled 26 jets at once.

The Gan International Airport has the capacity to handle 25-30 parked jets at any given time. An average of six jets has parked at the airport since December 6, and the airport is seeing movements of two to four jets each day.

Gan International Airport expects over 100 jets in December alone. There are currently 36 jets parked at the airport, and the number is expected to rise to 40 on January 1.

In addition to private jets, there are also additional private planes including A320 and Boing 752 planes parked at the airport.

The airport expects to see a high level of movement until at least January 15.

“Based on tourism reports, Maldives may not experience a traditional low season. We expect to see the same private jet trend in the coming year as well,” said Gan International Airport.

The Gan Airport in Addu City has a 3.4 kilometer runway, with the capacity to handle larger Boing 777 and A380 aircrafts.
