Maldives Meteorological Services (Met Office) has stated that Cyclone Burevi has now weakened considerably into a tropical storm and is no longer that much of a threat to the Maldives.

Met Office officials specified that the storm was now located around 200 kilometers away from Kanyakumari, an Indian town.

However, despite this, the Met Office has issued a white weather alert for the south of the Maldives due to anticipated bad weather. The atolls of Huvadhu and Addu could experience winds as strong as 19-24 miles per hour with winds increasing to 45 miles per hour during gusts.

For the next 24 hours, the Met Office expects bad weather for different regions of the nation with some islands experiencing thunderstorms. Seas are expected to be moderately rough with waves of around five to seven feet. Some islands may also experience tidal waves, according to the Met Office.
