The weather will clear up in a large part of the Maldives starting next week, according to the national weather agency.

The Maldives Meteorological Service forecasts scattered rain with a few heavy showers and thunderstorms across the country over the next 24 hours.

The agency forecasts northeast to easterly winds at 13 – 23 miles per hour with gusts of 40 miles per hour during showers.

Seas are expected to be rough.

But the agency expects the weather to begin gradually clearing up after Saturday, resulting in calmer seas.

The Maldives has been experiencing torrential rain and thunderstorms this month, as the weather transitions from Hulhangu Monsoon to Iruvai Monsoon. The heavy rain as well as swell waves have resulted in flooding in multiple islands, including the capital Male’ City, leaving scores of people temporarily displaced.
