Emirates carried highest number of passengers to Maldives

Statistics published by the Tourism Ministry of Maldives have shown that Emirates is the airline that carried the most number of passengers to the Maldives since the nation reopened its borders on July 15. 

Emirates, which began operations on the very next day, has so far carried a total of 13,379 passengers with a total flight movement of 162. 

Second, comes Qatar Airways. The middle eastern airline carried a total of 13,250 passengers with a total flight movement of 192. Russian carrier Aeroflot comes next, carrying 3,961 passengers with a total flight movement of 24. 

Other airlines:

  • Indigo: 2,551 passengers, 50 flight movements
  • Turkish Airlines: 2,160 passengers, 108 flight movements
  • Sri Lankan: 1,786 passengers, 134 flight movements
  • Air India: 903 passengers, 16 flight movements
  • Etihad Airways: 886 passengers, 72 flight movements
  • Spice Jet: 274 passengers, 32 flight movements
  • Edelweiss: 142 passengers, four flight movements
  • British Airways: 127 passengers, two flight movements

It should be noted that different airlines commenced operations to the Maldives on different dates and has different flight frequencies. 

National carrier Maldivian has so far carried 2,152 passengers in its international operations with a total flight movement of 62. 

Tourism Ministry statistics have shown that the Maldives has so far received a total of 41, 571 passengers, up until October 14 since the nation reopened. 

Showing promising growth and resurgence, from July 15 to October 14, the Maldives received 31,801 tourists. 

Tourist arrival statistics by month

  • July 15-31: 1,752 tourists
  • August: 7,628 tourists
  • September: 9,538 tourists
  • October 1-21: 12,934 tourists

The Maldives has received a total of 382,760 tourists before the nation closed its borders in March. This was an average of 4,206 tourists per day. So far in 2020, the Maldives has received 414,648 tourists. 

As the Maldivian tourist industry, hit hard by COVID-19 resurges slowly, tourist establishments and resorts have recommenced operations. Targeting the winter season, which is the tourist peak season for the Maldives, more and more airlines are also preparing to commence operations.
