Govt permits 70 safaris to operate

The government has permitted the operation of 70 safaris in the Maldives since the country reopened its borders on July 15. 

Maldives went into lockdown in March due to the outbreak of COVID-19. The country officially reopened its borders on July 15 under strict guidelines.

Safaris are operated under these guidelines after obtaining a special permit from the Tourism Ministry. Out of the safaris permitted to operate, some will recommence operations within next month. 

Boating Association has cautioned safari operators against allowing the movement of people between islands and safari boats.  

Tourists on safari vessels are not permitted to disembark to islands for PCR testing for the virus as well. 

A designated station has been established at Hulhumale’ for tourists on safari vessels to be tested for the virus. Pre-bookings can be made for testing at the station, according to NBAM.
