Govt. releases land for Pakistani diplomatic mission

The government of Maldives has released land to the High Commission of Pakistan from the diplomatic enclave to be established in Hulhumale’ phase 2 for the purpose of establishing a diplomatic mission.

The ceremony for the purpose was held virtually. Foreign Minister of Maldives Abdulla Shahid represented the Maldives at the ceremony while the High Commissioner Designate of Pakistan to the Maldives represented Pakistan at the ceremony.

To reduce the congestion in the capital Male’ City and for security purposes, the government decided to move the diplomatic missions in the capital to phase 2 of Hulhumale.

The land allocated for the Pakistani mission was also increased to 12,000 ft. Pakistani government assured that the Maldives would be granted land twice the size from the diplomatic enclave in Islamabad to establish a diplomatic mission. 

Land from the diplomatic enclave in phase 2 of Hulhumale’ has previously been released to UAE, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, China, and India as well.
