COVID-19: Additional 6 test positive, total 226

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has just announced that an additional six people have tested positive for COVID-19.

In a tweet on its official Twitter account, HPA announced that five Maldivians and a Bangladeshi national had tested positive for the virus. They are to be moved to an isolation facility.

So far, 12 cases have been confirmed today. It was announced earlier today that four Maldivians, a Pakistani national and a Bangladeshi national had tested positive for the virus.

The current number of cases in the country stands at 226. Yesterday, the Maldives marked the highest number of confirmed cases with 73 in a single day.

Out of the 226, the majority of the infected cases, more than 136, were dentified from migrants. Statistics show that the highest number of cases were identified from Bangladeshi nationals. 

Government authorities have stated that the number of cases in the country is expected to increase in the coming days. Tourism Minister Ali Waheed stated in a presser today that the country was now in phase 2 of the virus, which is the most dangerous one, before reiterating that the government was fully prepared for the worst-case scenario.
