Regions of the Maldives are experiencing heavy rainfall with thunderstorms today, prompting the Maldives Meteorological Services (Met Office) to issue a white weather alert.
The capital Male’ City saw a period of bad weather in the evening today, and social media was filled with pictures and videos of lightning strikes near the capital and Velana International Airport.

Met Office stated that the white weather alert would be in place for all regions of the country from 17:00 to 21:00. An official from the office stated to Sun that considering the time of the year, the weather could not be described as abnormal. This the period where the monsoons in the country chance and such weather were relatively common during this time of the year, according to the official.

The southwest monsoon season (Hulhangu Moosun) is expected to start in early May.
