The supply of dates donated by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Maldives will be distributed with the priority on those with insufficiencies, Ministry of Islamic Affairs has announced.
Saudia Arabia has donated dates to the Maldives every year in recent times, and this year was no different. Dates are often seen in Islamic culture as the most appropriate food to break the fast during the holy month of Ramadan.
Islamic Ministry stated that the dates would be distributed on the order of attendance to receive. The Ministry stated that the distribution will be conducted on every island and city of the country.
The priority will be on the underprivileged, and those registered with the Ministry last year will receive one packet of dates before the remainder is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
The supply of dates donated by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Maldives this year will allow the Ministry to distribute 33 packets of dates per 100 households after the packets to the underprivileged are allocated. The packets will be distributed based on the National Identity Card, and the Ministry requested to prioritize the needy during the process.
The city councils and island councils, as well as atoll councils, will be in charge of the distribution process for the islands, cities, or atoll under their jurisdiction. In Hulhumale’, the process will be carried out by HDC.
Council officials are requested to collect the dates for distribution from the Ministry during Ramadan from 9:30 to 17:00. The process has already been started and will be carried on until the supply of dates run out.
The Ministry has declared Friday, April 24 as the first day of Ramadan for the year 2020.
