Taxi driver among positive virus cases in Male’

National Emergency Operations Center, on Wednesday, announced that a taxi driver had tested positive for COVID-19 in Male’.

At the NEOC press briefing this afternoon, IGMH doctor, Dr. Ibrahim Afzal said that the patient in question, patient 86, was a contact of patient 36 and a Maldivian.

He had worked both as a security guard at the STO headquarters and as a taxi driver, said Dr. Afzal. He also said that the patient had begun exhibiting symptoms on April 15, but was now asymptomatic.

The rapid emergency response team has identified seven contacts in connection to the case.

Dr. Afzal noted that the taxi driver was connected with Case 36, a previously identified case. Case 36 is an individual who was a resident of Hulhumale’ Ameen Hiyaa and had tested positive for the virus after consulting with a flu clinic.

The doctor added that the two patients had been living in the same residence and three foreigners living in the same residence had also tested positive for the virus. The three foreigners are cases 74, 75, and 85.
