H. A. Uligan.

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Sunday, placed Uligan, a residential island located in H. A. Atoll, under ‘monitoring’ status.

A member of the Uligan Council who spoke to Sun confirmed receiving a notice from HPA.

“The notice by HPA says the island was under monitoring because of the presence of a person suspected of being infected with COVID-19,” said the councilor.

The possible new case in Uligan comes after Male’ City went under lockdown following the emergence of virus cases in the populous capital on April 15. HPA, on Saturday evening, instructed anyone who may have travelled out of Male’ within the past 15 days to self-isolate.

Sun has been informed the person in question in Uligan had lived in the same building as a person who had tested positive for COVID-19 in Male’.

15 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Male’ since the identification of the first case last week. HPA, in addition to ordering a lockdown on Male’ and suburban Hulhumale’ and Vilimale’, has also banned the travel of persons between any Maldivian island.
