Finance Ministry looking to hire an expenditure policy consultant

Finance Ministry has announced a job opening for an expenditure policy consultant as it works on cutting down all unnecessary government expenditure to minimize the economic impact of the deadly COVID-19 virus outbreak.

Finance Ministry, in an announcement on Monday, said that it had established an Economic and Expenditure Policy Unit under its Fiscal Affairs Department, and was committed to conducting the Unit’s work under an efficient mechanism.

It said that it was therefore looking for individuals who are educated and experienced in the area to serve as an expenditure policy consultant for the Finance Ministry.

Interested parties have been instructed to submit their expression of interest to the Finance Ministry either via email to [email protected] or via fax to 1617 by 1:30 pm on March 3.

COVID-19 has now infected more than 80,000 globally, and caused over 2,700 deaths – most from China were the first cases had originated from, in December 2019.

Maldives continues to have a travel ban on all flights from China – its top source for tourist arrivals - as a measure to prevent the disease from entering the country. It has resulted in thousands of booking cancellations, with experts warning its true economic impact will only become evident in the months to come.
