Local arrested for mugging a migrant worker

A local has been arrested for stealing money from a migrant worker in a mugging in Male’ City this Friday.

Police report the mugging took place at in front of the teashop, Memory Hotel, in Boduthakurufaanu Magu at approximately 9:11 am.

The mugger, identified as a 28-year-old Maldivian citizen, had stolen MVR 500 from the migrant worker.

The mugger was intercepted by the police from in front of the Ziyaaraih Mosque in Fiyaathoshi Magu.

According to the police, the MVR 500 note, believed to be the money stolen from the migrant worker had fallen to the ground during the arrest.

The money has since been returned to the migrant worker.

The mugging is under further investigation by the police.
