Economic Ministry has relocated registration services for its regularization program for undocumented expatriate workers from its regularization unit located at former Prosecutor General’s Office headquarters to the national stadium in Galolhu district of Male’ City.
Economic Ministry announced this Thursday that it has discontinued issuance of token numbers for registration to its regularization program, and will begin issuing appointments for registration from the national stadium starting from Saturday, October 5.
Undocumented expatriate workers who wish to join the regularization program have been asked to enter the national stadium from Gate Number 2. The service will be available from 9 am to 5 pm.
The decision by Economic Ministry to relocate the service to the national stadium follows issued over lack of space at its regularization unit – leading to undocumented workers having to wait in long queues at the Economic Ministry headquarters stretching all the way out into the streets – many of whom queue outside the unit overnight.
The lack of resources at the Economic Ministry had also limited the number of undocumented workers processed by the unit to 100-150 workers per day.
Maldives Immigration estimates the population of undocumented expatriate workers in Maldives to be close to 63,000.
