Employers given until March 15 to update biometrics of expats in greater Male’

Employers have been given until March 15 to update the biometrics of the foreign nationals they employ who work in the greater Male’ area.

In a statement on Sunday, the Homeland Security Ministry instructed employers to collaborate with the ministry’s Department of Foreign Labor to update the biometrics of expatriates working in Male’ City, Hulhumale’, and Vilimale’, as well as K. Thilafushi and K. Gulhifalhu.

The ministry warned that employers who fail to meet the March 15 deadline will be suspended from the Xpat system.

The Homeland Security Ministry launched ‘Operation Kurangi’ - an initiative to collect the biometric data of migrant workers in the Maldives – on May 2, 2024.

The operation, which began in K. Himmafushi, expanded to the greater Male’ area on January 18.

‘Operation Kurangi’ is being coordinated in the Male’ area out of a joint operations center at the National Center for Information Technology (NCIT).

The center is open from 09:00 am to 10:00 pm throughout the week except for Friday.

‘Operation Kurangi’ has seen the collection of the biometric data of over 25,400 migrant workers.
