Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) has secured membership of the United Nations World Tourism Association (UNWTA).
UNWTA is the United Nations agency responsible for the promotion of responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism. The decision by UNWTA to award MATI its associate membership was announced by MATI’s chairperson Mohamed Umar Manik (MU Manik) at the Maldives Tourism Conference 2019 hosted at Crossroads Maldives this Thursday.
According to MU Manik, MATI was awarded associate membership of UNWTA at the 23rd annual general assembly of UNWTA held at St. Petersburg, Russia, on September 11.
He said that MATI will represent Maldives at the 24th annual general assembly of UNWTA scheduled for 2020.
UNTWA is the leading international organization in the field of tourism, UNWTO promotes tourism as a driver of economic growth, inclusive development and environmental sustainability and offers leadership and support to the sector in advancing knowledge and tourism policies worldwide.
Manik has reiterated MATI’s commitment to promoting sustainable tourism and other UNTWA goals in Maldives as one of its associate members.
