President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has shortlisted former Elections Commission president Fuwad Thaufeeq and three others for the impending vacancy at the commission.
Total 10 candidates had applied for the vacancy which will forms once Elections Commission vice president Amjad Mustafa vacates his seat at the end of his five-year tenure on October 24.
Four were shortlisted by the President, and the list of the shortlisted candidates – ranked based on his preference – was sent to the Parliament this Thursday.
Ranked first place on the list was former Elections Commission president Fuwad Thaufeeq, followed by current commissioner Amjad Mustafa who has applied for reappointment. The shortlist also includes Haneefa Khaleed who had previously worked as a legal representative for the Elections Commission.

The President, in his letter to the Parliament, also attached the list of the other six candidates who applied for Elections Commission.
The names of the candidates have now been sent to Independent Institutions Committee for evaluation; during which the candidates will be interviewed and assigned marks.
