Maldives Police Service has opened an investigation into the allegation against Al-Haramain Hajj and Umrah that the company is overcharging the pilgrims who will embark on Hajj pilgrimage under their charge this year.

Al-Haramain was issued permit by Islamic Ministry to charge MVR 69,965 for Hajj tours from pilgrims.

The company has been accused of charging pilgrims over the set price.

Some of the pilgrims who spoke to ‘Sun’ allege the company charged several of the pilgrims over MVR 100,000 for slots to embark on Hajj pilgrimage.

A spokesperson from Maldives Police Service confirmed this Tuesday that investigators have questioned and obtained statements from several officials from Al-Haramain and others in connection to the case. He declined to disclose any further details as it is an ongoing investigation.

Islamic Ministry filed a complaint with Maldives Police Service over the allegation against Al-Haramain on Monday, July 15.

Senior officials from Al-Haramain were also summoned for questioning by the Islamic Ministry in connection with the case.
