Telecom company Ooredoo Maldives has introduced new generation eSIM services to the country.
The service was introduced by Minister of Tourism, Ali Waheed, and CEO and Managing Director of Oordeoo Maldives, Najib Khan in a ceremony held at Dharubaaruge this Sunday morning.
eSIMs, contrary to the physical SIMs currently used in Maldives, are downloadable. The new eSIMs come as postpaid SIMs, prepaid SIMs and tourist SIMs.
Ooredoo eSIMs can be downloaded to any device compatible with eSIMs. Some of the popular mobile phone models the eSIM is compatible with includes the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XSR and Google Pixel 3.
Customers can use up to nine numbers on a phone via the new service.
TO ACTIVATE eSIM:
Ooredoo reports its charges for the eSIM are consistent with its charges for SIMs currently in use in Maldives.
Customers who use eSIMs do not have to go through the hassle of purchasing a SIM when travelling to other countries which support the service, but can enjoy uninterrupted telecom services via an additional download.
Speaking during this Sunday’s ceremony, CEO Najib Khan said the new eSIM service will boost the country’s tourist industry.
“The Maldivian economy is dependent on tourism. And through this service, tourists who visit Maldives can activate a tourist SIM from the moment their flight lands at the airport,” said Khan.
