State to distribute 2 LED lights per household

Ministry of Environment has announced the decision to distribute the LED light bulbs donated by the Energy Efficiency Service Limited of India at the rate of two light bulbs per household.

EESL, the largest public energy service company of India, has donated 200,000 LED light bulbs to Maldives, a portion of which will be distributed to households.

Ministry of Environment assigned the task of distributing the first shipment of 50,000 LED light bulbs to Maldivian households to the Fenaka Corporation in a function held at the ministry headquarters this Thursday morning.

The light bulbs were handed over by Minister of Environment, Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan and accepted on behalf of Fenaka Corporation by its MD Ahmed Saeed Mohamed.

Ministry of Environment reports that each household will be provided two LED light bulbs under the project.

Speaking at the function, Minister Dr. Hussain noted that the LED lights are environment friendly and energy efficient.

The 200,000 LED lights will save 9,600 units of energy per day, said Dr. Hussain.
