Maldives Police Service reports it has confiscated the license of driver involved in the roadside accident in Th. Thimarafushi last Tuesday.

The accident, which took place on the road leading to the island’s airport at approximately 7:45 am on Tuesday, resulted in injuries to a 52-year-old female pedestrian.

The woman sustained three fractures to her head and is currently hospitalized and in a comatose state.

Maldives Police Service reported this Wednesday that the case is under investigation and confirmed it has confiscated the license of the driver who was driving the van which hit the woman.

MPS recently announced the decision to conduct criminal investigation in roadside accidents involving negligent or reckless driving resulting in critical injuries.

The decision followed a spike in roadside accidents across Maldives.
