Wellness center TfG (Total Fitness Group) has announced plans to organize a marathon, Runinrun, to promote exercise and healthy lifestyle among women.
Runinrun is scheduled to be held on March 1.
The title sponsor of the event is Care Society – the first time for an NGO to be assigned title sponsor of such an event, reports TfG.
Speaking during the launching ceremony of Runinrun last Saturday night, CEO of TfG, Hussain Zinan stressed the importance of financial contributions to NGO’s such as Care Society.
He announced 20 percent of the registration fee, as well as 26 percent of the contributions from sale of t-shirts for the event will go directly to Care Society.
Zinan noted that despite being the largest NGO in Maldives and its valuable contribution to promoting the rights of people with disabilities, women and children in Maldives, Care Society remains dangerously underfunded.
He pledged the assistance of TfG to Care Society.
“We are committed to doing everything in our power to have the name of Care Society heard and recognized by the public,” said Zinan.
Chairman of Care Society, Thoha Saleem expressed appreciation for being selected as title sponsor of Runinrun.
He thanked TfG on behalf of Care Society and the people it provides assistance to for the organization’s decision to select Care Society as title sponsor instead of a commercial business.
Thoha, too, stressed the challenges the NGO faces in providing its services in face of dire financial constraints.
RUNINRUN - EVERYTHING WOMEN
‘Runin’ is a highly regarded form of address for women.
Everything about the marathon – from organization to participation and everything in between – will be carried out by women, reports Head Running Coach of TfG, Shazna Mohamed.
Shazna said the 7 km marathon is designed to promote health and wellness among women.
TfG is offering training for all participants of the marathon in preparation of the event.
Shazna has asked participants who wish to receive training to contact the TfG headquarters.
Award-winning TT player and Master Trainer at TfG, Mueena Mohamed, too, spoke of the importance of health and fitness for women.
Mueena noted the habit of women using motorcycles to travel from one place to another in the small city of Male’, and urged woman to opt for walking or riding bicycles instead.
Runinrun will be held on March 1 in Hulhumale’. Registration is now open for total 1,000 participants. Further information regarding the marathon is available from TfG’s website.
