People’s National Congress (PNC) has submitted additional membership forms to the Elections Commission (EC) after over 2,000 of its original forms were found to be invalid.

PNC had originally submitted 4,000 membership forms. ‘Sun’ has been informed only 1,950 of the forms were found to be valid by the EC, and 2,050 of the forms were found to be invalid.

The party therefore submitted additional forms this Tuesday to meet the minimum requirement of 3,000 forms in order to register it as a political party.

‘Sun’ has been informed some of the original forms submitted by PNC included application forms for other political parties.

Member and Spokesperson of EC, Ahmed Akram reports the commission is verifying the new membership forms.

He said a second opportunity to submit membership forms for registration was regular protocol by the EC, which has been exercised with other political parties in the past.

PNC is spearheaded by former Maldivian President and Leader of Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. And the official founder of PNC is MP Abdul Raheem Abdulla, former Deputy Leader of PPM who resigned to form PNC on behalf of Yameen.
