Boat travelling to L. Gan with 8 wrecks on Mulaku Reef

A cargo boat travelling from Male’ City to L. Gan with eight onboard has wrecked on the Mulaku Reef.

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) said the incident was reported to the authority at 7:50 pm last Wednesday.

The boat Neel Villa was travelling with five Maldivians and three expatriate workers when it wrecked on the Mulaku Reef. MNDF reports no one was harmed in the incident.

MNDF divers, Maldives Police Service and the owner of the boat are working on moving the boat off the reef.

Mulaku Council says it has loaned water pumps to the authorities as the boat is taking in water. President of Mulaku Council, Ashraf Jamsheed says the people of Mulaku are ready to assist the authorities in removing the boat off the reef, if need be.

White alert has been issued for islands between Sh. Atoll and G. Dh. Atoll with the forecast for heavy rain and thunderstorms with winds up to 40 miles per hour, from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm this Thursday. Maldives Meteorological Service has advised due diligence to those travelling in the area.
