Maldivian group rallies to support Palestine in Challenge Cup

A local group, the Maldives Palestine Brotherhood Association, has declared support for the Palestine national football team in the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup.

The group is preparing to gather at the National Football Stadium in Male' to root for the Palestine team during the match between Palestine and Kyrgyzstan at 4:00 p.m. today.

General Secretary of the Maldives Palestine Brotherhood Association Abdulla Shakir told Sun Online that about 80 supporters with Palestine flags, banners and Boduberu teams, will gather at the National Football Stadium to cheer for the Palestine team.

“Our aim is to further strengthen the relationship between Maldives and Palestine,” said Shakir, in an interview today.

The Maldives Palestine Brotherhood Association will also cheer for Palestine during the match between Maldives and Palestine on 9 May, the association’s Secretary General said.

“As Maldivians, we want Maldives to win. But we will go to Galolhu stadium on that day (9 May), to show them that we’re with the Palestinian people,” Shakir said.

The Palestine national team has recently said that they hope to see support from Maldivians during the Challenge Cup tournament.

Set to kick off at the National Football Stadium today, the AFC Challenge Cup will continue in Male’ and Addu Football Stadium, Addu City until 30 May.
