Man arrested for distilling alcohol in Velidhoo

Police have arrested a man from Noonu Velidhoo for distilling alcohol.

Police said the 37-year-old man was arrested from his home on Thursday. A search of the premises, conducted under a court warrant, yielded distilling equipment and two 500 millilitre bottles containing what is suspected to be alcohol, police said in a statement today.

Velidhoo Magistrate Court has granted 10 days for the suspect’s detention. The island’s police station is investigating the case.
