Man arrested for selling Challenge Cup tickets at black market prices

Police have arrested a man in Male' for selling AFC Challenge Cup stadium tickets at black market prices.

Police Media Official said the 30-year-old man was selling tickets near Olympus, Majeedhee Magu, when he was arrested around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday night. The man was carrying tickets for various Challenge Cup matches, the media official said.

Police on Saturday warned the public to refrain from selling AFC Challenge Cup entrance tickets at inflated prices on the black market.

“Police will take the available legal action against those brought under custody for selling tickets on the black market,” the Police Media Official said.

Black market tickets fetch the highest prices on match day. This was last apparent during SAFF Championship held in Male’ and Colombo in June 2008, when large quantities of tickets changed hands at highly inflated prices on the street in Male'.
