Zone Stadium rebranded as

The Hithadhoo Zone Stadium has been rebranded as ‘Addu Football Stadium’ and officially inaugurated tonight, ahead of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Challenge Cup scheduled to begin tomorrow.

The stadium was inaugurated by former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom at a colourful ceremony this evening.

The Zone Stadium in Hithadhoo was develpoped during Gayoom’s presidency, between 1997 and 2001. Following the upgrade for the AFC Challenge Cup, the stadium now has an extended stand area, several multi-purpose rooms, and a modern lighting system provided by the government of Sri Lanka.

The MVR 71.5 million project to renovate Addu Football Stadium and National Football Stadium was awarded to Amin Construction early this year.

The AFC Challenge Cup teams have been divided into two groups, and Group B matches will take place at the Addu Football Stadium. Teams in Group B are Turkmenistan, Philippines, Afghanistan, and Laos.

Turkmenistan will play against Laos at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, followed by Philippines against Afghanistan at 9:00 p.m. on the same day.
