Maldivians will be satisfied with tomorrow

Assad Abdul Ghanee, ‘gold’ captain of the former Maldivian national team, has said that he is confident that Maldivians will be satisfied with the result produced by the national team at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Challenge Cup match tomorrow, against Myanmar.

The Maldives vs. Myanmar match is scheduled to kick-off at 9:00 p.m. tomorrow at the national football stadium.

Assad told Sun Online that the current Maldivian players’ talent is recognised by regional countries, and that this would be an opportunity for the Maldivian team to show their skills to the world.

“The current squad has the capability and skills required to achieve this. I am confident that they will prove this to Maldivians tomorrow night,” he said.

Assad, a native of Noonu Maafaru, first joined the national team in 2001, and left the team in 2011. He was captain for six consecutive years, from 2003 until 2009.

Assad was the captain of the national team when Maldives for the first time won the South Asian Football Federation Cup (SAFF) Championship in 2008, 1-0 against India.

Maldives, which is in Group A in the AFC Challenge Cup, will meet Myanmar tomorrow night, followed by Kirgizstan on Wednesday night, and Palestine on Friday night in the group stage matches.
