Will meet President Yameen soon after assuming office: Modi

Indian Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi has said that he would meet with President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom soon after assuming office to discuss ways to develop relations between India and Maldives.

Modi said this during a telephone conversation today, initiated by President Yameen to extend his congratulations to Modi following his success in the recent general elections in India.

President Yameen noted that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had secured a vast majority in the elections, and said that the people’s confidence in the party was evident in the election results.

Modi expressed his gratitude to President Yameen for the good wishes, and assured that he would, during his tenure as Prime Minister, give high priority to strengthening the existing relations between the two countries.
