Seven individuals apply for PG post

Seven individuals have applied for the post of Prosecutor General (PG) after application for this post was opened for a third time by the President’s Office. The deadline for submitting applications was 3:00 p.m. today.

Spokesperson at President’s Office Ibrahim Muaz did not reveal who applied for the post this time, but said that it includes some individuals who had applied earlier.

The five individuals who applied in the first round were lawyer Maumoon Hameed, former Tourism Minister Mariyam Zulfa, Deputy Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem, State Prosecutor at the Prosecutor General’s Office Aishath Fazna Ahmed, and lawyer Ismail Waheed.

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom nominated Maumoon Hameed and sent his name for approval by the parliament. With 36 votes, Maumoon Hameed failed to get approval of majority of the total parliament, which is 39 votes.

The individuals who applied in the second round were Criminal Court Judge Muhthaz Muhsin, Mohamed Shah, and four individuals who also applied earlier, Mariyam Zulfa, Aishath Fazna Ahmed, and Hussain Shameem.

Muaz said that President Yameen will evaluate the applications next week, and one individual will be nominated whose name will be sent to the 18th parliament for approval.
